I went to the Dickens Faire today with Jan and a bunch of her animation buddies (though we separated pretty quickly and it was really just me and Jan most of the time). I'd have to say it was highly entertaining! At first, I felt a bit lost and out of place--I know next to nothing about mid 19th century England (pre-Gilbert and Sullivan times) and have only supposedly read ONE Dickens book (
A Tale of Two Cities) and not very thoroughly. Besides, it has been awhile since I've acted...or affected a British accent for a long period of time, so I felt really embarrassed when talking to all these people pretending to be British.
But I was pleased to see all the people enjoying themselves. There was such great effort to make everything look period-y and it was really quite....enjoyable! I was there for five hours and it felt more like three. Plus we ran into some people we knew and got to see the Queen and people complimented me on my costume a lot ^_^
We got to see two magic shows, some singing and dancing, and a really nice group of carolers (made up of mostly Lyric people by the looks of it). And the buttered rum was fantasic, if not a little expensive and a little too hot--yowch, my tongue!
Anyway, after we got home, we watched like 5 episodes of Star Trek. A great and full day! Only, I feel apprehensive and a little bit sad. There is so much for me to do tomorrow. I'm not sure where the sadness is coming from.
